Quote of the Day

" Dance is the hidden language of the soul "
- Martha Graham

Karen Lynn, Humanitarian

Karen Lynn spent a lifetime in dance, writing, and movement. Doing everything all the self-anointed Prophets of the disabled world said was impossible. Labeled mentally retarded - oh that arcane, and loathsome phrase - three times on the basis of IQ testing that was not understood and was outmoded and outdated; when John C. Fremont ran California she refused to calm down, sit in the corner, and be "a good little puppy."

She sued and won under the California Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The suit took four year, and even her beloved family didn't think it possible for the victory to be won. But it was. Left unable to write a letter after graduating high school, she latched on to tutors and educated herself like Booker T. Washington and Upton Sinclair. She used dance as an instrument and outlet to gain physical and emotional strength. That Titan, Al Gilbert, taught her against all advice, and infused into her spirit that special something to help her walk tall in body, mind, and spirit during adversity.

This led the foundation for disabled young people using dance as a fun form of therapy. She saw a merry go round horse, and turned a prize winning short story into a book, which has changed my life, and a message which is as old as Aesop and the Bible, as knew as Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Elizabeth Moon. Good people can find their best selves; a defeat is not an end. God reigns. Corny- but never more needed. It has been my undeserved honor, to have sat at Karen's feet, for six amazing years. Her love and wisdom has saved me.

Now, let’s give it to the larger world. Let sew love, let’s share compassion, and, let’s bring truth and understanding to the forefront of our people and our governing people. This will give us the same strength and wisdom that Karen had while dealing with the disabled population. As Karen has all her life. Her legacy has taught us to hold our heads up high, never settling for less. We must stand in the world like trooper, with dignity and pride by teaching others how to treat “US” with the same respect.

This is the path, which Ms. Lynn has held steadfast to throughout her journey. This is the most authoritative and definitive kind of impact a person could ever have on society. She did it alone. But she is alone no longer. Karen Lynn is very passionate about helping those who are disabled. She has spent her lifetime trying to better the world for those that are looked down upon in society.
